Chairmans Annual Report 2011

My report to the A.G.M

20th December 2011

The National Bonsai Society has again seen some new ventures this year, in withdrawing from Southport Flower Show and holding two events at Dobbies Garden Center in Southport, one being an exhibition and demonstration of bonsai and the other an exhibition including the annual club show. I will let our show manager Chris Ryding comment on these events and his plans for the coming year.

After the A.G.M held in January it was decided to look for another venue due to an increase in the hire of the church hall. Southport Railway Club offered to accommodate us and as you know we tried new venue for a number of meetings. However it proved unsuccessful and after some negotiating we managed to return to the original venue of the church hall (which was a good thing as we hadn't moved our library).

In the current climate we as a bonsai society are managing to recruit new members and therefore able to restructure our agendas to pass on the wealth of knowledge our members have.

.

It pleases me to say that the weekend workshops that Pete Bullen hosts (again our thanks for Anne and Pete's hospitality) are proving to be a great success.

The agenda for the coming year will include demonstrations from our own members, a workshop night with the Larch forest and a possible return visit from Tony Tickle who will give a case history on a yamadori (collected from the wild) Yew. And Paul Goff who will give a talk / demonstration on the best way to photograph trees.

Our thanks go to all our speakers for the quality and quantity of valuable advice they all managed to pack into the limited time available and to everyone involved in ensuring the enjoyment and success of all these events.

Well done everyone! Your achievements are a credit to the Society and the time, work and effort you contribute greatly appreciated.
